about my lampwork...

all of my lampwork beads are lovingly created in my midwestern studio by hand. using italian, american, german or czech glass, each bead is wound on a 1/16th mandrel (providing you with a 1.3mm beading hole), and then properly kiln annealed for strength and durability.

when shopping for lampwork with me, you have several different choices. i welcome you to browse through my selection of one of a kind and reproduction beads available.

if you have any questions regarding my beads, please contact me. happy beading!

what does kiln annealing mean? TOP
as each bead is made, it is slipped into a digitally controlled kiln to allow the glass molecules to slow down and cool at a proper rate. this strengthens the core of each bead, making them less prone to stress fractures and breakage.

can your beads still break? TOP
yes. as with any glass object, beads will break if continually mishandled, dropped or otherwise misused. kiln annealing assures durability but cannot guarantee against breakage with abnormal usage.

why is artisan lampwork so expensive? TOP
when you purchase an artists beads, you are also purchasing a piece of imagination and creativity. the artist may also factor in such things as the amount of time a certain technique requires, the price of glass (which can sometimes be up to $100 per pound), overhead costs like the price of fuel, maintenance of torches and equipment, classes and so on. It's very difficult as an artist to place a number on  a 'piece of yourself', and you will see a wide variation in pricing out there. Ultimately, artists will charge what they feel their art is worth, and it is up to you as a buyer to judge for yourself whether you place the same value in that particular piece.
